Novo golpe: criminosos clonam contas de WhatsApp para extorquir

A empresa de cibersegurança Kaspersky divulgou um alerta nesta semana sobre a ação de criminosos que estão clonando o WhatsApp de usuários para extorquir dinheiro de pessoas conhecidas das vítimas.

Como inteligência artificial criou ‘nudes’ falsos de mais de 100 mil mulheres compartilhados em redes

A grande diferença desta nova modalidade de golpe é que a pessoa dona do perfil 'clonado’ ou 'falsificado’ não fica sabendo que os criminosos estão usando sua identidade para aplicar a extorsão. Nos casos em que a conta é roubada, golpe que teve um grande número de casos registrados, a pessoa sabe que foi vítima de um crime virtual porque perdeu o acesso à conta.

Para realizar este novo golpes, tudo que os golpistas precisam é de um chip de celular, uma foto de perfil do usuário e informações sobre amigos e familiares da vítima. Então, enviam uma mensagem dizendo “troquei meu celular”.

Após uma rápida troca de mensagem para ludibriar a vítima, o criminoso pede um empréstimo de dinheiro para pagar uma conta ou realizar uma compra e o novo celular é a desculpa perfeita para a falha na transferência.

O golpe é aplicado com os esforços de dois tipos de infratores: os que roubam dados e os comercializam na deep web e os que compram esses dados e praticam a extorsão.

Em setembro deste ano, a Polícia Civil de Goiás realizou a operação Data Brookers, e prendeu criminosos que conseguiram R$ 500 mil com as extorsões envolvendo a clonagem de WhatsApp.

Algumas medidas que podem ser tomadas para evitar esse transtorno são alterar as configurações de privacidade do aplicativo para que a foto de perfil seja mostrada apenas para os contatos, não usar a mesma imagem em todas os perfis na internet e sempre desconfiar de mensagens suspeitas, além, de manter a dupla autenticação do WhatsApp ativada.
