O presidente dos Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, disse na quinta-feira (10) que o prazo definido para a chinesa ByteDance vender os ativos norte-americanos de seu popular aplicativo TiKToK não seria prorrogado.

“Ou (o aplicativo) será fechado ou eles venderão”, disse Trump a repórteres. “Não haverá prorrogação do prazo do TikTok.”

O TikTok não respondeu imediatamente a um pedido de comentário.

A ByteDance está procurando um comprador para que possa finalizar o negócio em meados de setembro e cumprir a ordem de Trump de vender os ativos do aplicativo.

O TikTok é mais conhecido por vídeos curtos populares entre adolescentes. Mas as autoridades norte-americanas expressaram preocupação de que as informações sobre os usuários da plataforma possam ser repassadas à China. O TikTok disse que não atenderia a nenhum pedido de compartilhamento de dados de usuários com as autoridades chinesas.

O senador republicano Josh Hawley, um aliado próximo de Trump, disse à Reuters na quinta-feira que também não apoiava uma extensão do prazo.

No início deste mês, a Reuters informou que os potenciais compradores do TikTok estavam discutindo quatro maneiras de estruturar uma aquisição com a ByteDance, que inclui a compra das operações do aplicativo nos Estados Unidos sem a inclusão do algoritmo da empresa.

“Tenho certeza de que há um grande número de brechas no código e, claro, a ByteDance sabe exatamente quais são, então é preciso haver uma separação limpa, clara e total”, disse Hawley.
