O presidente Jair Bolsonaro disse nesta quinta-feira (3) que caberá a ele decidir qual modelo de tecnologia 5G será adotado pelo Brasil, e admitiu que conversa com o governo norte-americano e outros países e entidades sobre os prós e contras das redes disponíveis.

“Temos uma decisão sobre 5G pela frente. Quero deixar bem claro: quem vai decidir sobre o 5G sou eu, não é terceiro, ninguém dando palpite por aí não, eu vou decidir o 5G”, disse ele, em transmissão pelas redes sociais.

“E não é da minha cabeça apenas. Eu converso com o general Augusto Heleno, do GSI, converso com o [Alexandre] Ramagem, que e chefe da Abin, converso com o Rolando Alexandre, que é o diretor-geral da Polícia Federal, com mais inteligência, com gente mais experiente, converso com o governo americano, converso com várias entidades, países, sobre o que temos de pró e contra”, acrescentou.

Na transmissão, Bolsonaro disse que o Brasil é uma “potência” e que há um serviço de inteligência lidando com esse tipo de assunto. O presidente já disse que aspectos de soberania nacional, segurança de informações e dados, questões de política externa e temas econômicas vão pesar na escolha relativa ao 5G.

A escolha da tecnologia 5G tem oposto áreas de influência dos Estados Unidos e da China, dois importantes parceiros comerciais do Brasil. Mesmo antes da pandemia de covid-19, o leilão do espectro — inicialmente previsto para ocorrer em março de 2020 — foi adiado.

Há expectativa que a empresa chinesa Huawei assuma papel fundamental na implementação da próxima geração de rede de alta velocidade na América Latina, apesar dos esforços dos Estados Unidos para conter o avanço da gigante chinesa.

O governo dos EUA já enviou recados alertando para possíveis impedimentos no fortalecimento da cooperação nas áreas de defesa e inteligência com o Brasil caso a empresa chinesa entre no mercado de 5G do país.
