Antes de eleições dos EUA, Twitter amplia regras sobre desinformação

O Twitter disse nesta quinta-feira (10) que irá remover de sua plataforma informações incorretas publicadas com o objetivo de minar a confiança na eleição dos EUA, incluindo publicações que alegam a vitória antes da divulgação dos resultados ou que incitam uma conduta ilegal para evitar uma transferência pacífica de poder.

O Twitter disse em seu blog que está atualizando suas regras para reconhecer as mudanças na forma como as pessoas votarão na eleição de 3 de novembro e tentar se proteger contra a supressão de eleitores e conteúdo enganoso em sua plataforma.

A rede social também afirmou que colocaria alertas ou removeria informações incorretas, que criem confusão sobre leis, regulamentos e funcionários envolvidos em processos cívicos, bem como alegações contestadas que poderiam minar a credibilidade do processo, como informações não verificadas sobre apuração de votos ou sobre fraude eleitoral.

Um porta-voz do Twitter disse que se o conteúdo conter mentiras específicas ou tiver potencial de causar maiores danos será determinado se será removido ou terá um alerta e teria seu alcance reduzido.

As empresas de mídia social há muito estão sob pressão para combater a desinformação depois que agências de inteligência dos EUA determinaram que a Rússia usou suas plataformas para interferir nas eleições de 2016, alegações que Moscou negou.

O Twitter disse que suas regras seriam “aplicadas igual e criteriosamente para todos”. A nova política, que é global, entrará em vigor em 17 de setembro.
