Imunidade contra covid-19 pode ser mais duradoura do que se esperava

Pesquisadores de Singapura fizeram uma descoberta importante sobre a imunidade contra a covid-19. Após 17 anos da epidemia de SARS, doença também causada por um coronavírus e que teve pico de casos entre 2002 e 2004, pacientes que se recuperaram desse vírus ainda apresentam Células T — um tipo de linfócito, células de defesa do sistema imunológico presentes no sangue — específicas para tipos de proteína daquele coronavírus.

Estudo publicado na Revista Nature na última quarta-feira (15), como prévia antecipada e ainda sem a revisão ou edição tradicionais, demonstrou que esses pacientes possuiam Células T específicas que conseguiriam criar uma reação cruzara e combater a covid-19.

Também foi testada a eficiência dessas células de defesa presentes em pessoas que tiveram o novo coronavírus e, em diversos campos, todos apresentaram resultados positivos.

Segundo os pesquisadores, “essas descobertas demonstram que as Células T criadas por infecções por Betacoronavírus são duradouras, embasando a noção de que pacientes que contrairam a covid-19 vão desenvolver uma imunidade duradoura”.

Para chegar a estas conclusões, foram testados 23 pacientes que se recuperaram da SARS e 36 que se superaram da covid-19.

“Nossas descobertas também levantam a intrigante possibilidade de que Células T duradouras, geradas por infecções de vírus relacionados, podem ser capazer de poteger contra ou modificar a patologia causada pela infecção do novo coronavírus”, completam os pesquisadores.
