Facebook, Google, Apple e Amazon depõem no Congresso dos EUA

Autoridades irão avaliar se as empresas devem ser desmembradas ou de alguma forma contidas Reuters

Os CEOs das quatro maiores empresas do setor de tecnologia – Facebook, Google, Apple e Amazon – vão participar, nesta quarta-feira (29), de uma audiência na Câmara dos Deputados dos Estados Unidos, em Washington, para depor sobre possíveis práticas de monopólio por parte empresas que comandam.

Mark Zuckerberg, do Facebook; Sundar Pichai, do Google; Tim Cook, da Apple e Jeff Bezos, da Amazon, devem enfrentar uma longa sessão de perguntas dos membros do Subcomitê do Judiciário da Câmera sobre Direito Antitruste, Comercial e Administrativo a partir das 13h (horário de Brasília).

A audiência encerra uma investigação de 13 meses pelo subcomitê da Câmara. Cada um dos 15 congressistas terá cinco minutos para fazer perguntar aos executivos, que vão participar por meio de videoconferência por conta das restrições impostas pela pandemia de covid-19.

Entre os quatro CEOs, Mark Zuckerberg é quem participou de mais sessões para falar sobre o Facebook, foram três no total. Cook e Pichai participaram de apenas uma audiência anteriormente. Já Bezos responderá às perguntas dos congressistas pela primeira vez.

Segundo informações publicadas pelo jornal New York Times, O Facebook é acusado pela concorrência de ter o monopólio nas redes sociais, após a compra do WhatsApp e do Instagram. Já a Alphabet, empresa-mãe do Google, lida com questões antitruste relacionadas ao domínio do buscador em publicidades online, pesquisas e softwares para smartphones. A Apple estaria investigada por usar sua loja de aplicativo para prejudicar rivais e forçar aplicativos a pagarem altas comissões. E a Amazon por obter vantagem de seu papel como varejista e como marketplace.
