O WhatsApp lançou, nesta segunda-feira (15), para usuários brasileiros, um sistema que permitirá o envio de dinheiro para contatos ou para empresas dentro de uma conversa no aplicativo, anexando o pagamento como se fosse uma foto ou vídeo.

O WhatsApp testou o sistema de pagamentos na Índia desde de 2018. O lançamento no Brasil será o primeiro em âmbito nacional e introduzirá a capacidade de pagar diretamente uma empresa.

O aplicativo possui mais de 120 milhões de usuários individuais no Brasil, seu segundo maior mercado, perdendo apenas para a Índia.

Inicialmente, o sistema aceitará pagamentos com cartões de débito e crédito do Banco do Brasil, Nubank e Sicredi.

“O WhatsApp é muito usado no país, tanto por pessoas quanto por pequenas empresas”, disse Matt Idema, diretor de operações do WhatsApp, sobre o Brasil.

“Acreditamos que podemos ajudar a aumentar os pagamentos digitais, ajudar a ampliar a economia digital com pequenas empresas e ajudar a apoiar a inclusão financeira”, disse o executivo à Reuters, em entrevista.

Muitas pequenas empresas do Brasil usam o WhatsApp como ferramenta de marketing para responder perguntas ou enviar catálogos, disse Idema.

O executivo-chefe do Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, disse em abril que a empresa estava expandindo ferramentas para negócios no WhatsApp.

A implantação no Brasil foi planejada há muito tempo, mas pode ajudar os usuários que estão trancados durante a pandemia de coronavírus, disse Idema.

“Não podemos ter o tipo de interação que normalmente teríamos, se você quer emprestar dinheiro a alguém ou se deseja comprar algo de uma empresa local”, disse ele.

O sistema de pagamento usará o Facebook Pay e será gratuito para usuários individuais, cobrando das empresas uma taxa pelo recebimento de pagamentos.

Conforme a Cielo, o pagamento de pessoa para pessoa funcionará na modalidade débito e o pagamento de pessoa para empresas ou empreendedores funcionará nas modalidades débito e crédito. Nas transações de débito, o comerciante receberá o valor da venda em um dia e nas transações de crédito em dois dias.

Idema disse que a empresa planeja levar o sistema de pagamento para vários outros países, mas não especificou quais.
