O Facebook vai sinalizar anúncios políticos compartilhados por usuários em seus próprios feeds, fechando o que, segundo críticos, é uma brecha nas medidas de transparência da empresa.

A maior rede social do mundo coloca um aviso de isenção de responsabilidade que diz “publicação paga por” em anúncios políticos desde 2018, depois de enfrentar uma reação por não impedir a Rússia de usar suas plataformas para influenciar as eleições presidenciais de 2016 nos Estados Unidos.

Mas o aviso desaparecia quando as pessoas compartilhavam os anúncios em seus próprios feeds, o que, segundo os críticos, prejudicou sua utilidade e permitiu que informações mentirosas continuassem se espalhando sem controle.

“Anteriormente, o pensamento aqui era que essas eram publicações orgânicas e, portanto, não precisavam necessariamente conter informações sobre anúncios”, disse Sarah Schiff, gerente de produtos do Facebook que supervisiona a mudança.

Depois de receber comentários sobre o sistema, disse Schiff, a empresa agora considera importante divulgar se uma publicação “em algum momento foi um anúncio”.

A empresa enfrenta críticas para fazer mais para combater a desinformação antes das eleições presidenciais de 3 de novembro, incluindo do candidato democrata Joe Biden, que na semana passada pediu ao presidente da companhia, Mark Zuckerberg, que reverta decisão de isentar anúncios políticos da verificação de fatos.
