Americanos não confiam nas redes sociais para filtrar conteúdos

A maioria dos norte-americanos não confia nas empresas de redes sociais para tomarem as decisões corretas sobre o que deve ser permitido em suas plataformas e confia ainda menos no governo sobre estas escolhas, de acordo com uma pesquisa divulgada na terça-feira (16) pela Gallup e pela Knight Foundation.

O debate sobre a moderação de conteúdo online, já em destaque durante a pandemia de Covid-19 e antes das eleições presidenciais dos Estados Unidos, intensificou-se nas últimas semanas, com Twitter e Facebook divergindo sobre como lidam com publicações polêmicas do presidente norte-americano, Donald Trump.

A pesquisa constatou que quase dois terços dos norte-americanos são a favor de deixar as pessoas expressarem suas opiniões nas redes sociais, incluindo opiniões ofensivas.

No entanto, 85% dos entrevistados disseram que são a favor da remoção de informações de saúde intencionalmente falsas ou enganosas e 81% apoiam a retirada das plataformas de alegações intencionalmente mentirosas sobre eleições ou outros assuntos políticos.

Os pesquisados foram mais críticos em relação às empresas que fazem menos na moderação de conteúdo nocivo, com 71% dos democratas e 54% dos independentes afirmando que as empresas não são suficientemente duras, enquanto os republicanos se mostraram mais divididos.

Oito em cada 10 entrevistados disseram que não confiam nas gigantes de tecnologia para tomarem as decisões corretas sobre o conteúdo. Mas a maioria disse que prefere que as empresas estabeleçam estas regras e não o governo, embora uma pequena maioria dos democratas seja a favor do governo estabelecendo limites ou diretrizes de conteúdo.

Os entrevistados tenderam a preferir a ideia de ter conselhos independentes de supervisão de conteúdo para determinação das regras, com 81% dizendo que a criação destes conselhos são uma boa ideia. O Facebook está no processo de criação de um órgão semelhante que analisará casos de conteúdo nocivo publicado na plataforma e poderá fazer recomendações de políticas para a empresa.
