Twitter promete combater teorias conspiratórias sobre covid-19

O Twitter disse nesta quarta-feira (6) que vai combater a disseminação de teorias conspiratórias prejudiciais que ligam a tecnologia de telefonia móvel ao coronavírus, com um ‘prompt’ para direcionar as pessoas que procuram sobre 5G para informações verificadas pelo governo britânico.

A teoria, que se espalhou nas mídias sociais, resultou em ataques a antenas de telecomunicações móveis e abuso direcionado a engenheiros no Reino Unido. Cientistas, companhias telefônicas e o governo disseram que isso é completamente falso.

O Twitter disse que o prompt de pesquisa informaria aos usuários que o governo não havia visto nenhum vínculo entre o 5G e o Covid-19, e incluiria um link para um site do governo com informações confiáveis, factuais e verificadas em relação ao 5G.

Katy Minshall, chefe de governo, políticas públicas e filantropia do Twitter, disse que a medida é o passo mais recente em seu foco em conectar pessoas com informações oficiais sobre o Covid-19.

“Nossas parcerias ao longo desta pandemia nos permitiram tomar medidas proativas para levar às pessoas as informações mais relevantes e úteis para elas”, disse.

Facebook e Google

O Facebook e o Google também tomaram medidas para combater a desinformação sobre o Covid-19 em suas plataformas, no entanto, as empresas de mídia social foram criticadas por não fazerem o suficiente para combater a desinformação.

Representantes dos três foram questionados por legisladores na quinta-feira passada sobre as medidas que haviam tomado.

O presidente do comitê de mídia e digital do parlamento, Julian Knight, disse que a posição que eles adotaram foi “profundamente inútil e falhou em esclarecer o que estão fazendo para enfrentar a ameaça representada por níveis recordes de desinformação e desinformação online sobre o Covid-19, algumas delas mortais”.

O Facebook removeu recentemente a página oficial do teórico britânico da conspiração David Icke, que promoveu a teoria 5G, por violar suas políticas de desinformação prejudicial.

O Google encerrou o canal do Icke no YouTube pelo mesmo motivo.
